Ann Richards, Principal Flute

 

Ann Richards, Assistant Principal flute in the Nashville Symphony, specializes in orchestral flutes including piccolo, alto, bass, Irish whistles, recorders, and Native American, and can be heard on recording projects ranging from classical to country to Christian rock to TV and radio jingles. Her love of chamber music has included performances with Nashville Collective Composers, Eastwood Ensemble, and Belmont Camerata.

Ann received music degrees from California State University, San Jose, and Northwestern University (Walfrid Kujala), and spent two years in Europe studying and attending master classes with James Galway, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Marcel Moyse, and Peter Lloyd. She previously taught flute at Belmont University, Middle Tennessee State University, Austin Peay State University, David Lipscomb University, and Trevecca Nazarene University, and now maintains a private studio.

Ann has performed/presented at National Flute Association conventions and written articles for Flute Talk. She serves on the NSO Education Committee and the Boards of Walk/Bike Nashville and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra League. With her bassist husband, Ann has written two popular bicycle guide books, and loves outdoor activities as cycling, kayaking, and hiking. These activities included their teenager son Marcus until he became a jazz/pop/rock/blues guitarist and audio-engineer and has no more time for the parents!
