PARTHENON CHAMBER ORCHESTRA RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD

September 23, 2020 The Parthenon Chamber Orchestra has won Third Place nationally in this year's prestigious American Prize Competition for Orchestral Performance, Community Orchestra Division.

"I am gratified and honored that one of Middle Tennessee's newest artistic treasures has achieved this level of national recognition," said PCO Music Director and Conductor David P. Sartor. "This award is a testament to the caliber and musicianship of the orchestra members."

The Parthenon Chamber Orchestra was founded in 2015 by Sartor. Its ranks include professional session musicians, college music professors and instructors, and members of the Nashville Symphony and other area orchestras. The 52-piece orchestra performs not only historical literature but works by living composers - especially those in Middle Tennessee - and has featured area artists David Hobbs, Michael Arndt, Emily Hanna Crane, Jennifer Kummer, Stephen Drake, David Johnson, Ann Richards, Bonnie Farr, and Emily Bowland as soloists on concerti.

The American Prize competitions are unique in scope and structure, designed to recognize and reward the best performing artists, ensembles and composers in the United States.
