In the Nashville area there is a need for a chamber orchestra that performs not only historical literature but works by living composers - especially those in Middle Tennessee. The Parthenon Chamber Orchestra is an exciting, dynamic and award-winning ensemble chartered in 2015 to fulfill both aspects of that mission. Its ranks include professional session musicians, college music professors and instructors, and members of the Nashville Symphony and other area orchestras.

The Parthenon Chamber Orchestra won Third Place nationally in the 2020 American Prize Competition for Orchestral Performance, Community Orchestra Division, and has featured area artists David Hobbs, Michael Arndt, Emily Hanna Crane, Jennifer Kummer, Stephen Drake, David Johnson, Ann Richards, Bonnie Farr, Emily Bowland, Denise Baker, and Grace Woodworth as soloists on concerti. The name "Parthenon" was selected because the Parthenon replica in Centennial Park is unique to Nashville, and Nashville is known as "the Athens of the South."
